Retail Operations Manager (Full-Time)

Posted 2 months ago

Position Overview

Axe and Awl is seeking a dependable, detail-driven Retail Operations Manager to own and operate our retail space day to day.

This role is responsible for the full retail experience — from how the space looks and feels, to how customers are welcomed and guided through their visit.

You will serve as the primary presence in the shop, setting the tone for hospitality, maintaining standards, and ensuring the retail environment reflects the quality of the products we build.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary retail associate, working the shop floor full-time
  • Deliver warm, intentional customer service rooted in unreasonable hospitality
  • Guide customers through products and purchasing decisions with clarity and confidence
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of the retail space
  • Restock inventory and monitor product levels
  • Support retail merchandising and product displays
  • Assist with staffing coordination and scheduling as needed
  • Communicate with the team to ensure alignment between retail and workshop operations

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable taking ownership of a space and maintaining standards
  • Self-directed and proactive
  • Able to multitask and shift priorities throughout the day
  • Aligned with a culture of craftsmanship, accountability, and consistency
  • Comfortable using various forms of technology

Retail experience is helpful, but not required. Pride in your work and how you show up matters more.

Who This Is Not For

This role is not for someone who:

  • Waits to be told what to do
  • Is comfortable letting standards slip
  • Avoids engaging with customers
  • Sees retail as simply “ringing people out”

We hold a high standard for how our space looks, feels, and operates every day.

Our Standard

We practice unreasonable hospitality. That means creating an experience that feels personal, welcoming, and thoughtful from the moment someone walks through the door.

We value ownership, consistency, and attention to detail.

If you take pride in maintaining a space, serving people well, and being part of a team that cares deeply about the work, this role may be a strong fit.
