Blogging, is this still a thing?!?

Blogging, is this still a thing?!?

September 11, 2022 by Axe and Awl Leatherworks

Hello internet!

My name is Spencer, and i enjoy writing as a means to convey our story! We’ve decided to jump into the world of blogging as we navigate some interesting times in social media, and to be honest, it’s been the push i’ve needed to put it in motion. We’ve kicked around the idea of a blog for a couple years now, but ultimately would always push it to the back burner. It happens right, we all seek the ability to “prioritize” better, it’s only natural, so here’s to more self accountability.

Did you know our shop used to be a Royal Typewriter Repair Facility in the 70’s https://axeandawlleatherworks.com/product/dashboard-makers-mark-hat/?

Social Media Trends😑

Social media is changing, and the current social media shift is trying to cram each of us into a box to create content that is just down right brutal. TikTok trends, the change to short format videos, the flash in the pan “influencers”. This all comes in a time where likes and views are more valued than genuine interactions and content created with intention. The push to pay for advertising to even reach your core following is a sad thing to see, and drastically decreases the opportunity for a new creative to grow without spending volumes of money on paid ads. Adapting is obviously natural, I mean, change is good, usually. While not always the easiest path to take, continuing to learn and evolve to current societal trends is important in business evolution…..but not when it compromises integrity!

The disappointing moments where we see well respected brands and individuals carry on like we’ve never before seen to chase a “viral trend”… yikes! While we are firm believers in a “to each their own” mindset, we are also set in our ethos of how we operate as a business. How we are setting examples for other entrepreneurs, setting examples for our children, and representing the business community we are deeply passionate about in Western North Carolina.

Onto the fun stuff!

Our intention with blogging is to continue to have a creative outlet to share special moments, educate, connect, give a behind the scenes look into what we’re doing, and otherwise continue creating content that is natural to us. By doing so, we are confident that anyone who scrolls through, can quickly realize that our focus is to always do the right thing, and ensuring what we do is enjoyable to all(including us)! This is all achievable for us by maintaining a level of integrity within our operations that anyone can feel comfortable with.

If we ever make a record, this is the cover art(Spencer,Courtney, Travis)

The content of the blogs will vary, with one constant….value, and/or humor! The focus behind our blog is to continue to add value to our community of supporters, and share things we are passionate about. This will include not just topics about leather, or how to’s, but also topics on local travel, fellow entrepreneurial journeys, and guest writers sharing a related passion! Look at this as the behind the scenes look into what we do. A place to understand whose crafting your leather goods, the direction we are heading, and the journey of a craft based small business.

The next blog is underway and is an introduction to our team of talented people! Getting to work along side a group of creative, intelligent, and talented people has been an absolute treat to experience. Each day we learn something from one another, and foster an environment of continuous improvement, and positive growth. Workplace culture is a huge part of what we do, and we’re excited to give you a view into that side of what we do!

-Spencer
