Western North Carolina (WNC) is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting some of the most breathtaking hiking trails in the southeastern United States. From majestic mountain summits to cascading waterfalls and lush forests, there’s no shortage of natural beauty to explore. Here are a few favorite hiking spots in WNC to help you hike into spring!

  1. Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Offering over 800 miles of trails, including a section of the Appalachian Trail, the Smokies provide diverse hiking experiences for all skill levels. You won’t want to miss iconic trails like Alum Cave Bluffs and Clingmans Dome. If entering through Bryson City our favorite spot to grab lunch to go is The High Test Deli & Sweet Shop! The perfect trail lunch!
  2. Blue Ridge Parkway: This scenic drive is lined with numerous hiking trails showcasing stunning vistas and diverse ecosystems. Highlights include Graveyard Fields, Craggy Gardens, and Linville Falls.
  3. Pisgah National Forest: Encompassing over 500,000 acres, Pisgah is a hiker’s paradise. Explore the challenging trails of Shining Rock Wilderness or discover hidden gems like Looking Glass Rock. Take a trek to the summit of Mount Pisgah for panoramic views.
  4. DuPont State Recreational Forest: Known for its picturesque waterfalls, and dense forests. DuPont features a network of trails and stunning waterfalls like Triple Falls and High Falls.
  5. Grandfather Mountain: With rugged terrain and jaw-dropping scenery, Grandfather Mountain offers exhilarating hikes like the challenging Grandfather Trail and the picturesque Profile Trail leading to Calloway Peak.
