Autumn in the WNC Mountains

Autumn in the WNC Mountains

October 1, 2024 by Ashley

As the vibrant hues of summer gradually fade, Autumn in the WNC mountains transforms into a breathtaking spectacle of beauty. The changing leaf colors paint the landscape in rich shades of red, orange, and gold, creating a tapestry of nature’s artistry.

Things to Do

Festivals are abound during this time, offering a delightful celebration of the season’s bounty. Our favorite being the Apple Harvest Festival in our hometown, Waynesville, NC. Visitors flock to orchards and farms to indulge in fresh apple cider and mouthwatering apple pies

Pumpkin patches emerge, inviting families to select the perfect pumpkin for carving or decoration. The air is filled with the scent of cinnamon and spices as pumpkin spice lattes and baked goods become seasonal favorites.

Things to See

As daylight wanes, cooler nights descend upon the mountains, providing a welcome relief from the summer heat. Crisp evenings are perfect for cozying up by the fire or taking a leisurely stroll under the starlit sky.

Hiking trails beckon adventurers to explore the forest ablaze with autumn colors. The rustling of fallen leaves underfoot adds a musical soundtrack to outdoor excursions, while the crisp mountain air invigorates the senses.

Scenic drives through the Blue Ridge Parkway offer panoramic views of the changing foliage. Photographers and nature enthusiasts alike flock to capture the beauty of this fleeting season.

Support Local Makers

Local artisans showcase their talents at fall craft fairs and festivals. Offerings often include handmade goods inspired by the natural beauty of the mountains. From pottery and jewelry to woodworking and textiles, these unique creations make for perfect souvenirs or gifts.

As autumn in the WNC mountains unfolds, it’s a time to savor the simple pleasures of the season. Whether enjoying a scenic drive, picking apples at a local orchard, or simply admiring the changing leaf colors, there’s no shortage of ways to embrace the magic of autumn in this picturesque region.
