7 Reasons Our Navy and Olive Leather Belts are Worth the Hype
Several times a year we offer a limited run of specialty leather goods made from rare, luxurious, or otherwise unique leathers, this time we’re rolling out limited edition navy and olive leather belts! Made from premium quality vegetable tanned lined harness leather from renowned tannery Wickett and Craig, these belts are designed to be worn and loved for the rest of your life, read why below!
1. Timeless Style
When we design new leather goods at Axe and Awl Leatherworks, it’s never about chasing trends. It’s about materials, process, and purpose. In twenty years’ time, this limited-edition belt will still be hugging hips. Designing such an heirloom product is a big responsibility! Luckily for you, our leather crafters have great taste and have thought this one all the way through.
2. Unique Leather Belt Colors

Navy and olive aren’t your average belt colors, but they’ll definitely make your average outfit stand out. Not in a flashy way- olive and navy are both considered “colored neutrals” like black or brown, they are muted enough to pair with almost anything, but they carry a subtle hue that adds depth and interest. This is an easy way to make an outfit memorable without overwhelming it.
If you just can’t imagine getting away from your standard earth toned belts, think for a minute about color theory. Olive is seasonless, it’s a year-round neutral with personality, it can be paired with spring creams or fall browns. Navy is sophisticated, it can be dressed up or down as business casual or suave weekend wear.
The solid brass buckle and hand burnished edges lend to a sleek finish able to support any kind of outfit from denim, chinos, or a tailored suit. Dress it up, dress it town, but whatever you do, this versatile belt will do more than just keep your pants up- it will have you feeling totally put together.
3. Superior Quality Leather from Wickett and Craig Tannery
Wickett and Craig is a world premiere vegetable tannery out of Pennsylvania that has been in operation for 150 years. It is one of two remaining vegetable tanneries in the USA. The vegetable tanning process (vs the alternative chrome tanning process) aligns with our brand values of leaning traditional, eco-conscious, and longer lasting. Plus, the way Wickett and Craig veg tan leather patinas over time? The leather becomes like a work of art that tells the story of your life, deepening (in color) the older it gets. Did we mention leather as an heirloom already?
4. Harness Leather Dual Layer Construction

That’s right- a two layered belt. The top layer, visible to the world in navy or olive, is harness leather traditionally used to craft equestrian gear. It was developed to survive horse power, the elements, and generally go the extra mile. Oop! You spilled a gin and tonic on your lap? No worries, harness leather resists moisture and in turn resists warping and stretching. The “worst” thing that drink is going to do is potentially speed up the patina setting in and make the color of your belt richer. Might as well order another round.
The inside layer of our navy and olive leather belts is a vegetable tanned lining which offers a supple, luxurious feel and aids in resisting stretch and moisture molding comfortably to the wearer over time. Glued and stitched together, as sophisticated as this dual layer belt may look, it’s construction also goes hard to the core.
